高三英語：抽象名詞+itself

"抽象名詞+itself"可用在be的后面作為表語形容詞。這是一個強勢結(jié)構(gòu)，能產(chǎn)生強烈的修辭效果。如:

I share the room with Isabel. She is tidiness itself（=very tidy）.

The sentence is simplicity itself! ( = very simple) .

例: Mr. Smith is prudence ______.

A. himself B. itself C.in itself D. in himself

[分析] 答案 B. 試題中由于主語是人(Mr. Smith ) ，學(xué)員往往會選 A 或 D，但實際上這是一個 強調(diào)結(jié)構(gòu)，因prudence是抽象名詞。

Mr.Smith is prudence itself. = Mr. .Smith is very prudent. 這一特殊強調(diào)結(jié)構(gòu)有一個變體，即 be+all+抽象名詞。這兩個強調(diào)結(jié)構(gòu)可以相互換用而意思不變。試看以下兩組例子:
