高三英語：抽象名詞+itself

"抽象名詞+itself"可用在be的后面作為表語形容詞。這是一個強(qiáng)勢結(jié)構(gòu)，能產(chǎn)生強(qiáng)烈的修辭效果。如:

I share the room with Isabel. She is tidiness itself（=very tidy）.

The sentence is simplicity itself! ( = very simple) .

例: Mr. Smith is prudence ______.

A. himself B. itself C.in itself D. in himself

[分析] 答案 B. 試題中由于主語是人(Mr. Smith ) ，學(xué)員往往會選 A 或 D，但實(shí)際上這是一個 強(qiáng)調(diào)結(jié)構(gòu)，因prudence是抽象名詞。

Mr.Smith is prudence itself. = Mr. .Smith is very prudent. 這一特殊強(qiáng)調(diào)結(jié)構(gòu)有一個變體，即 be+all+抽象名詞。這兩個強(qiáng)調(diào)結(jié)構(gòu)可以相互換用而意思不變。試看以下兩組例子:

At the moment, Freddy was all energy（渾身是勁=very energetic).

At the moment, Freddy was energy itself （= νery energetic).

Jessica has a loving heart. She is all kindness（=very kind）.

Jessica has a loving heart. She is kindness itself ( = very kind).

all+抽象名詞和抽象名詞+ itself 一樣，也用作表語，在最大程度上體現(xiàn)該抽象名詞的性質(zhì)或情況，現(xiàn)再舉數(shù)例以饗讀者:

Rose will be all anxiety（焦急不安）until she hears from her brother.
